30-Second Chair Stand

The Chair Stand is a quick assessment used to measure your functional mobility, strength and endurance. Take the Chair Stand assessment in a clear space, wear comfortable footwear, and use oxygen if prescribed.

You Will Need

  • A chair
  • A stopwatch
  • Oxygen if prescribed


  1. Begin the Chair Stand assessment seated.
  2. Cross your arms at your wrists and hold them against your chest,
  3. Keep your feet flat on the floor.
  4. Start the stopwatch and rise to a full standing position then sit back down.
  5. Repeat for 30 seconds
  6. Record your results in your 12 Week Exercise Guide. You can download and print an extra copy here.
